It’s agreeable that many people are now interested in automatic cars. They prefer automatic cars to manual ones, most probably because the former is easier to drive than the latter, especially if they are often stuck in traffic congestion in major cities.
Unlike cars with manual transmissions, automatic cars only have two pedals: the accelerator and brake. Driving an automatic car is easier also because you don’t need to press the clutch.
For this reason, a lot of people are comfortable with going automatic. When driving an automatic car, you can reduce the risk of getting pins and needles often experienced by manual car drivers.
Now, manufacturers produce more automatic cars as a lot of customers are interested in their advantages and ease.
Although being easy to drive, automatic cars have their drawbacks. They are known to use much fuel. The RPM of automatic transmissions is higher than that of manual transmissions.
Driving an automatic car leads to higher fuel consumption as it uses a torque converter or automatic clutch.
But worry not; check out these tips to save fuel when driving an automatic car.
A moving body certainly needs more energy. It also applies to cars. Faster acceleration makes the engine work harder, so more fuel is consumed.
Don’t put the brakes on too often if not necessary. Maintain a constant speed to make the engine work more constantly.
Several automatic cars are often driven in a lower gear, so they consume more fuel.
You can avoid such a high consumption by shifting gears earlier. Take your foot off the accelerator after the speed has reached 50 km per hour. Then, accelerate gradually using higher gear.
Don’t apply the brakes too often. Using them too much can increase fuel consumption.
If not necessary, avoid resting your foot on the brake when the car is moving at a constant speed. Excessive loads on the engine and transmission can result in more fuel consumption.
Tires are car components in direct contact with the road. Each of them has its own role and impact on fuel efficiency. Low tire pressure makes the engine work hard and increases fuel consumption.
You can save fuel by refueling when the engine is idle. Liquid can expand when heated. When you refuel a running engine, the fuel will expand, so more fuel is needed.
More fuel is used when you are driving aggressively, such as accelerating at a high speed and then applying the brakes suddenly.
According to a source, fuel consumption increases by 33% and 5% when cars are driven recklessly on toll roads and highways. For this reason, accelerate only if necessary. There is no need to speed up recklessly.
You can use those tips to save fuel when driving an automatic car. To save even more money, use car rental services for your daily mobility. You can rent an automatic car at TRAC, with various brands and types available for you to choose from.
