The word ‘museum’ nowadays refers not merely to a collection of antiquities and blasts from the past but also unique and contemporary works of art. With the injection of technology, combined with attractive displays, and fun activities, museums have now become a child-friendly place because there are many things to engage the kids. Some museums are even interactive.
Strategically located, Bank Indonesia Museum is situated not far from the Fatahillah Square, the core of Jakarta Old Town. Several dioramas inside the museum attractively and interactively depict the history of Indonesia’s financial and central bank. Some are even completed with videos to explain the exhibits better. Don’t forget to stop by the Numismatic Room to see currencies both Indonesia and foreign.
Kite Museum is one of the few museums in South Jakarta, unlike many other museums grouped in and around the Jakarta Old Town area. You learn about the many different traditional Kites of Indonesia and foreign, and kids also get to participate in kite-making workshops. The kids can also bring their designed kites home as well! There are also plenty of other things kids and adults can participate in, like yoga classes, dance classes, and other workshops.
Besides the Jakarta History Museum, Wayang Puppet Museum, and Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics, there is one other museum you can stop at while visiting the Fatahillah Square around the Jakarta Old Town area. Occupying a heritage building, the Magic Art 3D Museum is relatively compared to other museums in the area. With 17 zones, each carrying a different theme and 104 photo spots, the arts are displayed not only on the walls but also on the floor. Taking pictures can be challenging, but fret not; the staffers are always happy to help and even direct your poses.
Moja Museum or Museum of Jakarta is relatively reachable due to its central location in Jakarta. This museum is one for the millennials and young families. Moja consists of 3 areas: Roja by Moja, where you can stroll around and take pictures at the museum on roller skates; SUMoPaint, where you can paint on a canvas or the wall; and Golf by Moja, where you can play a game of 11-hole mini-golf. The vibrant and colorful photo spots here are to die for!
The MACAN (Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara) Museum exhibits contemporary and interactive art. Art installations and modern-style paintings are displayed to quench the thirst of visitors looking for contemporary arts. The multisensory experience in MACAN Museum is top-notch.
One of the most favorite spots is the Infinity Mirrored Room, where visitors are only given 45 seconds to take pictures in this room. Every other time, the MACAN Museum also exhibits the works and installations of contemporary artists. For example, the Children’s Art Room, by Theresia Agustina Sitompul, entitled Kembara Biru. Perfect for visiting with your little one!
Spending the happy holidays with your little one at the museums above seems fun! The museums are spread around the city so you can choose to visit one by one on different days or several museums on the same day. Seeing them all in one day would require extensive time on the road, so you may want to look for the most convenient and safe transportation arrangement.
Make the best of the museum trip by renting a car from the TRAC car rental service. Despite approaching the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, TRAC remains consistent in implementing a health and safety protocol. Aptly named the SMART Protocol, it includes the following:
