A visit to Lake Toba isn’t complete without setting foot on Samosir Island. Besides being widely known as an “island within an island”, Samosir is home to numerous tourist destinations.
Once you arrive at Samosir, make sure that you explore every side of it. As a guideline, TRAC has compiled 5 recommended places and activities that you should not miss when visiting Samosir Island.
Beaches are usually synonymous with hot weather and scorching sun. In the “beaches” of Samosir Island, however, the situation is certainly a whole lot different. The cool and breezy mountain air will be your friend when you’re playing with sand and waves. Yes, the Lake Toba beaches are different.
There are several beaches that you can visit while on Samosir Island, including: Parbaba White Sant Beach, Batu Hoda Beach, Sibolazi Beach, Indah Situngkir Beach, Sigurgur Beach, and others.
Although, unlike any other normal beaches that face the open sea, these beaches of Lake Toba also offer various water sports that you can play. Want to know more? Samosir Island welcomes you.
Lake Aek Natonang, a lake within a lake, is surely a place where you will have yourself wondering, “what a beauty!”. Aptly name Lake Aek Natonang or a lake with calm waters, the water in this lake is somewhat very still.
You can enjoy its beauty by driving about 30 minutes from the Tomok Market and Tomok Port. there are at least three other lakes on Samosir Island besides Lake Aek Natonang, they Lake Sidihoni, Lake Silengge, and Lake Sipalionggang.
Besides admiring its beautiful natural landscape, a trip to Samosir Island would be more complete by exploring the unique Batak culture.
The stunning Sigale-gale puppet show is definitely not to be missed where you can witness wooden puppets dancing to the sounds of ethnic music. You can enjoy this show at the Batak Museum, Tomok.
Another place where you can learn more about the ancient Batak is Huta Siallagan or Siallagan VIllage, a village that has existed for centuries. Rows of traditional will address you as you arrive.
Not far from the gate, there is also an arrangement of stones resembling chairs and tables known as the “Trial Stone”.
Samosir Island is definitely not one that you can enjoy in merely short time. Therefore, you should take the time to spend the night there. You won’t have a hard time looking for accommodation in Samosir, some even offer overnight packages in traditional Batak houses. We recommend a homestay located in Huta Tinggi.
Imagine spending a night while gathering together with friends and family to share stories and plan about your adventure in a spacious wooden house. Prepare your snacks, the night’s gonna be long.
