The beauty of Mount Bromo is widely known not only by travelers but also by ordinary people all over the country and even by people worldwide, so it is no surprise if travelers would come and flock to this destination. The journey to hunt for the morning sun at Mount Bromo usually starts from midnight until dawn and just before daytime. So, if you’re planning a visit to Mount Bromo, don’t waste your time and discover the possibilities of exploring other places around Mount Bromo.

TRAC has compiled at least 5 beautiful spots you can stop by after a tour of Mount Bromo or as a standalone trip during your free time with friends and family.

These are the 5 must-visit spots around Mount Bromo

1. B29 Peak, enjoy Mount Bromo from the other side

Located in the southeast of Mount Bromo, B29 Peak stands at 2,900 meters above sea level. This peak can be an alternative to enjoying the beauty of Mount Bromo. If the weather is sunny, you can enjoy the spectacular view of at least Mount Bromo, Arjuno-Welirang, Argopuro, Raung, and Semeru, from a distance. Come in the afternoon to get the best view, even though the morning is no less attractive.

Besides B29, there is also P30 Peak which is said to be a hidden gem. Gear yourself to drive through rough terrain before the 3,000-above-sea-level view enchants you further. Administratively, both B29 and P30 are located in the Lumajang Regency area.

2. Mentigen Hill, camping while sunrise-hunting

If the Pananjakan area on Mount Bromo becomes too crowded or you have visited Mount Bromo before, you can try going to Mentigen Hill. This hill tends to be less crowded, especially if you travel on weekdays. Here you can also wait for the sunrise in the tent. The Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park Management officially allows tourists to set up tents at this location. Exciting!

Besides merely spending the night until sunrise comes, this area is also known to be a splendid place for hunting the milky way at night. Others even do pre-wedding photoshoots in the morning or afternoon. You have to trek for about 15 minutes from the Ngadisari rest area, where you can safely park your car or motorcycle.

3. Madakaripura Falls, the highest waterfall on Java Island

Labeled as the highest on Java Island and second in Indonesia, Madakaripura Falls has a drop rate of 200 meter high. A combination of rocky hills and lush greeneries mix perfectly with the waterfall. From the Mount Bromo area, you need to spend an hour's drive to reach this location.

Located in Probolinggo Regency, the name comes from its tight relationship with Gajah Mada. It is said that this waterfall was the place where the vicegerent of the Majapahit Kingdom would come to meditate.

4. Coban Pelangi, a perfect stopover after enjoying Mount Bromo

If you depart from the famous Pasir Berbisik (Whispering Sand), Coban Pelangi or Rainbow Waterfall can be reached in less than 1 hour of driving to Tumpang, Malang Regency. This place is a perfect stopover after chasing the sunrise on Mount Bromo. The scorching sun from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will create rainbow colors in the 110-meter-high waterfall.

5. Ngadas Tourism Village, the village above the clouds that still hold onto traditional custom

Known as the highest village on Java Island, it’s not surprising that this place is called the village above the clouds. Aside from the beautiful view and the cool breeze, the people of Ngadas Village also still hold onto traditional customs and their ancestor’s culture. Many events are held in this village; if you’re lucky and come on time, you can participate in one of them.

There are several locally-managed homestays in Ngadas Tourism Village. Therefore it’s perfect for those of you who want to rest before or after going to Mount Bromo. Despite the cold weather, you will be greeted with the warmth of the Ngadas Village people.

The five spots above are usually not on the Mount Bromo tour itinerary list. For that, you should arrange your visit. Arrange a visit with friends or extended family to make the trip more lively and exciting. Traveling together will undoubtedly strengthen the bond with your loved ones.

Suppose you’re coming in a big group. In that case, you must make a well-prepared transportation arrangement with a proper vehicle, especially to get to the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park area located at a certain altitude.
