5 Eco-Friendly Travel Ideas When You’re in Bali

As Indonesia’s major travel hub and a hotspot for locals and foreigners alike, Bali has an endless option of tourist attractions. This time, why not try something new and more conscious by visiting eco-friendly destinations and activities? In addition to supporting the quality and eco-friendly tourism movement or sustainable tourism that is heavily promoted, opting for eco-friendly tourism activities will also enrich your experience.

Here are five eco-friendly destinations and activities in Bali

1. Participate in environmentally-related classes and workshops

It seems to be easier to find classes offering eco-friendly activities nowadays. Try eco-friendly soap-making classes from organic materials in some communities. While for those of you who love gardening, do take organic farming classes where it yields fine delicacies that you can indulge in. Fashion can also be explored in an eco-friendly way like eco-print. Many classes offer eco-print making, a technique of printing on fabrics with motifs derived naturally from leagues, flowers, and bark using natural dyes.

2. Cycling around tourist villages

Stroll through the narrow village streets while interacting and enjoying the hospitality of the locals. Ditch the motorized vehicles and get around the village by bicycle. Take a break by the rice fields to greet the hardworking farmers on duty or simply just enjoy the beautiful and natural atmosphere of the Bali countryside.

3. Participate in beach cleaning or other social activities

A memorable vacation is not always merely what we get from the destination but also what we provide. So, do try taking part in beach cleaning activities usually organized by environmentalist communities such as Trash Hero, One Island One Voice, Ocean Mimic, and many others. Don't forget to check their schedule of activities through social media.

4. Shop organic and local

No vacation is complete without shopping. However, make sure the items you buy are eco-friendly. You can also opt for souvenirs made from recycled materials to bring home to your loved ones. You can also try vegetarian or vegan food with locally sourced ingredients every now and then. By choosing local products, not only that you support the local economy, you can reduce the carbon footprint caused by transportation.

5. Reduce pollution! Go electric!

Pairing eco-friendly activities with an eco-friendly way of getting around should be the norm. Apart from walking and cycling, you can try using electric cars that leave fewer carbon footprints to get around.
