Location of the Yogyakarta Hot Air Balloon Festival

The festival is taking place at Obelix Village, located in the Pandowoharjo area of Sleman Regency. Because of this, many people also refer to it as the "Obelix Village Hot Air Balloon Festival."

To get to Obelix Village, you'd need to drive roughly 40 minutes north from the Malioboro area, a central hub for tourism in Yogyakarta. It's conveniently situated: not only is it close to the starting point for the Merapi Lava Tour, but it's also near the newly opened Heha Forest.

If you're excited to snap some photos with stunning hot air balloons, just like in Cappadocia, you'll need to secure your ticket in advance.

During the first presale, tickets were priced at IDR 75,000, but that offer ended on October 22. However, you can still get tickets during the second presale from November 2-4, 2023, for IDR 100,000. If you happen to miss the presale, there will be limited on the spot tickets available for IDR 125,000.

Your ticket isn't just an entry pass to the balloon festival. It also gives you access to the entire Obelix Village. Plus, as a bonus, you'll receive 5 'kreweng' coins, which can be traded for treats and souvenirs at the festival's booths.

Operational Hours

The Hot Air Balloon Festival has a limited window of activities, so it's a good idea to get there early. The balloon flights are scheduled from 6:00 AM to 8:30 AM. This is the perfect time for photo opportunities as the morning sunlight is gentle and not too harsh.

But the festival isn't just about balloons. You and your family can also enjoy various fun activities. Try your hand at batik-making, watch entertaining angklung performances, and kick off a lively Sunday with some Zumba dancing.

However, keep in mind that these activities are available only until 10:00 AM. After that, you're free to explore the many spots within Obelix Village at no additional cost.
