The fact that LCGC (low-cost green car) cars are popular right now, especially among city people, can’t be denied. One of the reasons is definitely its super-efficient fuel consumption.
Its compact shape is also considered practical for short-distance travel in the hustle and bustle of dense city traffic.
However, what if LCGC were used for the long homecoming (mudik) trip to your hometown? Some may doubt this, considering that the LCGC was designed as a city car, not an inter-city car.
Because on paper, the LCGC performance on out-of-town roads or toll roads is not as good as the cars above its class, considering the relatively small engine capacity.
However, during the mudik season, traffic will most definitely be more dense than usual. In fact, traffic jams are to be expected. This means that the speed of LCGC will not make much of a difference compared to other cars with a larger fuel capacity.
On the flip side, the traffic density that occurs makes LCGC significantly superior in terms of fuel efficiency.
To get a clearer picture, here is the calculation of fuel and toll costs for an LCGC car when traveling back and forth from Jakarta to Surabaya.
LCGC, such as the Toyota Agya, Daihatsu Ayla, Honda Brio Satya, Suzuki Karimun Wagon, and Datsun Go have an average combined fuel consumption rate of 16-18 km/liter in the city and toll roads.
Meanwhile, fuel consumption on toll road where traffic flows more smoothly is 19-21 km/liter.
Assuming the heavy traffic during the mudik season, fuel consumption via toll roads is estimated to be around 16 km/liter.
The Jakarta - Surabaya toll road, part of the Trans-Java Toll Road, is 784 kilometers long and consists of 13 sections.
If the fuel consumption of an LCGC is 16 km/liter, traveling on the 784 km toll road from Jakarta to Surabaya would require around 49 liters of fuel.
LCGC has an average fuel capacity of around 33 liters, indicating that you would need to fill up the fuel tank twice on a Jakarta – Surabaya trip.
If the LCGC owner uses Pertamax, costing Rp 13,300/liter, buying 49 liters of fuel would require a grand total of Rp 651,700.
If the LCGC consumes Pertalite, priced at Rp 10,000/liter, a total of Rp 490,000 is required for 49 liters of fuel. These costs are only for fuel, excluding the toll fare.

If everything is added up, the estimated total to be prepared for an e-toll card for the Jakarta - Surabaya route is Rp 722,000.
In conclusion, the total cost of fuel consumption and the Trans-Java Toll Road for the Jakarta – Surabaya route is Rp 1,373,700 when using Pertamax.
