The school holiday is just around the corner. It’s never a better time to take the kids to have fun during the break from the school routine. Unfortunately, there are times when you don’t have much time to arrange a vacation plan out of town because of work or other time-limiting activities.

Alternatively, you can dedicate a whole day to taking your children to play in Jakarta and create a no-less-memorable experience with the family, like trips to the many parks and playgrounds that Jakarta has to offer.

Seven recommended parks and outdoor playgrounds in Jakarta to visit during the school holiday

1. Tebet Eco Park

Having undergone a revitalization, this park is now an up-and-coming icon of Jakarta. Tebet Eco Park extends from north to south along the small river that flows through the middle of the park. Separated by Jl. Tebet Barat IX, this park is linked by the number-8-shaped Infinity Link Bridge.

Enjoy playing in the park while walking among the lush trees, along the suspension bridge, and wooden walkways. There is also a playground and outdoor gym for children on the south side. Here, they can play in the sand, slide, climb walls, enter tunnels, walk on nets, and climb the back of the crocodile statue, the area’s mascot.

Jl. Tebet Barat Raya, South Jakarta

Operational hours: 06.00-20.00

Admission: Free

2. Taman Menteng & Taman Kodok

This park is located in the upscale area of Central Jakarta. It had been used as a football stadium before turning into a city park open to everyone. Various children and teenagers facilities, from slides, and swings to futsal and basketball courts, are available here. There is also a fountain, reading corner, and greenhouse. Rollerblading is also among the most popular activities that your children can do here.

On the other side, there’s a smaller garden called Taman Kodok or Frog Park, with a round-shaped space at the center used as an amphitheater or an outdoor gym facility. Shady seats and cute frog figurines surround this space to make it more calming and beautiful.

Taman Menteng

Jl. HOS Cokroaminoto, Central Jakarta

Operational hours: 05.00-22.00

Admission: Free

3. Taman Suropati & Diponegoro Statue

Seven minutes walk from Taman Menteng, you will arrive at the ever-lush Taman Suropati. Despite having no particular playground, Taman Suropati is spacious enough for your children to run freely, ride bikes, or feed pigeons. Meanwhile, you can sit down and relax in the calming water fountain or walk along the acupressure track. This park is usually more festive every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, particularly with art communities who usually gather or practice their skills here. In the front of the park stands a Diponegoro Statue, the gallant horseback prince adorned by a water fountain and a colorful flower garden. A dash of Europe in Jakarta, especially with the St. Paul Church decorating the background.

4. Situ Lembang

Three minutes walk to the north of Taman Suropati, you will arrive at Situ Lembang Park. This park has an enchanting small lake encircled by a jogging track, a water fountain, and playground equipment. Unroll your mat and unpack your meal; this place is perfect for a picnic. Compared to the more festive Taman Suropati, Situ Lembang is relatively quieter, a deserving nominee for Jakarta’s very own hidden gem!

Here, ten equipment can be used by children aged 2-10 years. All equipment is rigged with an international standard rubber floor to make it safer for children to play. There is also a wet play area with slides and showers. This playground also provides a basketball hoop, cycling track, and roller skating arena for exercise. Hungry?
