The city, commonly known as “Jogja,” is in the Province of Special Region of Yogyakarta and is well-known for its trendy and up-to-date tourist destinations. From breathtaking natural attractions and mouthwatering culinary delights to inspiring educational tourism, Jogja offers a wide variety of experiences.

With so many tourist destinations to choose from, it’s only natural to feel unsure about which one to visit first. But don’t worry. Here are 5 unique and less common tourist destinations you can consider visiting.

1. Kaliadem

Kaliadem is located in Kinahrejo, Hargobinangun, Pakem, Sleman and has become one of the favorite tourist destinations in Yogyakarta. Close to Mount Merapi, it’s an ideal place to enjoy natural beauty and learn about the history of the volcano’s eruptions.

The main attraction of Kaliadem is the Kaliadem Bunker, a site rich in historical significance. In addition, you can take photos with the majestic Mount Merapi as your background.

Kaliadem is open 24 hours a dayfor you to enjoy the views freely. However, it’s best to visit before 12 PM or after 3 PM to avoid the intense heat. The entrance ticket is very affordable: Rp10,000 per person.

2. Kalikuning Hill

Kalikuning Hill, located inBebeng Street, Umbulharjo, Cangkringan, Sleman, is another fascinating tourist destination. In the past, Kalikuning was a lava flow path during the Mount Merapi eruption.

Today, the area has transformed into a lush, green space that’s perfect for relaxing, camping, or taking photos with Mount Merapi in the background.

Kalikuning is open from 8 AM to 5 PM, giving you plenty of time to enjoy its natural beauty and refreshing atmosphere. The entrance fee is very budget-friendly: only Rp3,000 per person per visit.

3. Jomblang Cave

Located in Jetis, Pacarejo, Semanu, Gunungkidul, Gua Jomblang is a major attraction for adventure tourism enthusiasts. This cave opens from 9 AM to 2 PM and offers a unique experience with the stunning “heavenly light” phenomenon.

To enter the cave, visitors need to pay an entrance fee of Rp500,000 per person. Although the price is relatively high, the experience is well worth it for the breathtaking beauty it offers.

However, since the capacity is limited, it’s recommended to make a reservation in advance to secure your spot. Don’t forget to bring a camera to capture the magical moments inside the cave.

4. Indrayanti Beach

Located in Dusun Ngasem, Tepus Village, Gunungkidul, Indrayanti Beach is one of the must-visit beaches when vacationing in Yogyakarta. With an entrance fee of only Rp5,000 per person, you can enjoy the beauty of white sand and clear seawater.

Although Parangtritis Beach is more well-known, Indrayanti Beach has its own charm and a cleaner and more comfortable atmosphere. Interestingly, the name “Indrayanti” is actually the owner of a nearby restaurant, which became more popular than the beach’s original name, Pulang Syawal Beach.

Enjoy the gentle breeze, sound of the waves, and exotic views at Indrayanti Beach for a more memorable holiday with your loved ones.
