Despite most people going on their homecoming trip (mudik) for the Lebaran holidays, many others choose to have a family vacation instead. People unwilling to go on their mudik trip and thus celebrate Lebaran in Jakarta will likely do it.
Lebaran holidays always create a rare sight when Jakarta’s usually crowded main streets turn deserted, captivating those who want to enjoy the city’s view and skyscrapers.
If you decide to stay in the capital city during the holidays, it’s the right time to have fun with your family. Several tourist destinations are available to spice up your holidays!
As the only seaside tourist destination in Jakarta, the iconic Taman Impian Jaya Ancol (Ancol Dreamland) should not be missed to spend Lebaran holiday with your family. You can play in the water on the beach, fly some kites, or enjoy the various dishes available.
Surely, you can also try the various amusement rides available in the 5.7-hectare enclosure. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, hop on the roller coaster, Kora-kora (pirate ship ride), or Hysteria (drop tower) in Dunia Fantasi (Dufan)!
Or you can enjoy a modest-but-fun water ride in Atlantis Water Adventures. Watching diverse collections of fish at various sizes in Sea World and attractive shows at Ocean Dream Samudera can also be part of your bucket list. Your family will surely be happy!
Ancol is open daily from 6 AM-10 PM. The entrance ticket costs 25,000 rupiahs/pax, while car and motorcycle parking tickets cost 25,000 and 15,000 rupiahs, respectively, such reasonable prices with the available facilities.
If you want your children to know about various Indonesian animals, you can take them to explore Taman Margasatwa Ragunan (Ragunan Zoo). Located in Jalan Harsono, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, the 147-hectare enclosure houses at least 2,000 animals from 220 species.
Ragunan Zoo is one of the best places to safely watch animals from a close distance, such as mammals, reptiles, birds, and fish. Make sure you don’t miss the animal feeding shows! You can watch gorillas and Sumatran elephants having lunch or Komodo dragons having dinner.
Ragunan Zoo is open from Tuesday-Sunday at 7 AM-4 PM. The entrance tickets are affordable, only 4,000 and 3,000 rupiahs for adults and children respectively.
Thanks to its new look, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) has become a recent trending social media topic. TMII has just been revitalized and reopened for the public at the end of November 2022. Improvements are everywhere to make it more attractive for visitors.
The most visible one is the expansion of green areas, creating a shadier vibe with pedestrian-friendly features. You can choose TMII to spend your Lebaran holidays in Jakarta. Boasting new looks, it consists of various interesting spots to visit,
such as the Archipelago Lake as the miniature of the Indonesian archipelago, the pavilions of Indonesian provinces’ traditional houses, Keong Mas (Golden Snail) IMAX theatre, the Telecommunications Museum, and other various educational exhibits.
TMII is open at 6 AM-5 PM from Monday-Friday, and at 5 AM-5 PM on weekends. The entrance ticket costs only 25,000 rupiahs/pax, while the motorcycle and car parking tickets cost 15,000 and 25,000 rupiahs, respectively.
Those are the recommended tourist destinations in Jakarta that you can visit during the Lebaran holidays. There are many other attractive ones, such as Monas (National Monument) as the icon of Jakarta, or Setu Babakan, a cultural village of Betawi.
