Bandung is a city full of stories. No wonder this city has, for years, became many people’s favorite travel destination. This September 25th, Bandung is celebrating their 212th anniversary. Despite not many events occurring in welcoming their anniversary, spending your time cherishing what this city has to offer will never get old. Let’s see what kinds of leisurely things we can do while celebrating The Flower City’s birthday.

Here are 5 things you can do in Bandung during their anniversary

1. Bandung Anniversary Sports and Art Festival at the City Hall

This event will be held in the precinct of the Bandung City Hall and open to the public on September 24, 2022. At the event, you can stop by the various MSME stands that are open, so don't forget to bring extra money. At the stands, you will find a range of different creative products that are locally made, ranging from snacks to handmade crafts.

In this event, you can also see various art performances performed by the locals. There are also fun aerobics and relaxing bicycles activities in which up to 500 people can participate. Besides that, there are also several social events, like the distribution of compensation packages.

2. Retail Therapy at the Bandung Great Sale

Besides being well known as a travel destination, Bandung is also well known as a shopper’s paradise. It can be said that Bandung is one of the pioneers of the nation’s shopping destination. So, it’s best to prepare yourself to shop it all out at the Bandung Great Sale which will be held from 23 to 26 September 2022. There will be price cuts of up to 80% at hundreds of partner tenants all across the city.

3. Educational Tourism at the Bandung Zoo

Bandung is not just a paradise for shopping and dining, but Bandung is also home to the Bandung Zoological Garden (Bazoga). This legendary zoo is located is a stones throw away from the Dago area, which is one of Bandung’s tourist epicenters.

Spend IDR 50,000 per person to get in and greet the hundreds of animals that call the zoo abode. Don’t forget to wear comfortable clothes and footwear when exploring this 14-hectare zoo, cause there will be endless walks. Bandung Zoo is open every day from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. So, make sure to choose a visit in the morning and spend the entire day there.

4. Savoring a bit of the old school taste at Keuken van Elsje

Celebrate the anniversary of Bandung by going on a culinary journey. Aside from the more well known Braga Permai or Sumber Hidangan, this time, TRAC will invite you to have a taste of nona and tuan cuisine in Keuken van Elsje, a restaurant that has been around since 1920 as well as one of the cultural heritage that the Flower City can offer.

A strong Dutch-style nuance will greet you as you set foot in this restaurant. Located on Jl. Buton No. 11, everything from the ornaments to the foods will take a brief journey back in time to the land of windmills. Some of the recommended menus at this restaurant are Aligot van Elsje, which is mashed potatoes served with 4 types of cheese. There are also the unique and filling Hutspot and Stamppot that you can try.

5. Breathing the fresh Bandung air at the Djuanda Grand Forest Park

Away from the city’s hustle and bustle, a little bit to the north of the city lies the evergreen Djuanda Grand Forest Park. Enjoy some light trekking while walking among the big trees, in which morning and evening treks can be equally as fun.

A humble abode to a variety of floras, Djuanda Grand Forest Park is also home to several waterfalls and caves that you can visit. Among the caves at the forest park are the infamous Japanese Cave and Dutch Cave. As for the waterfalls, there are Curug Omas, Curug Dago, and Curug Lalay Waterfalls. Bring about a flashlight if you want to explore the sides of the cave, especially the Dutch Cave where you may need to prepare a flashlight that’s brighter than the one equipped on your cell phone.

Besides the 5 things you can do above, there are definitely many more things you can do in Bandung with your family, friends, and loved ones.
