Bali calling! 5 Anti-Mainstream Things to Do in Bali

29 Mei 2022

As a favorite destination for domestic and international tourists alike, Bali is known for its beautiful nature and culture. You can visit many different tourist attractions on the Island of the Gods, and many more to see than meets the eye.

Explore Bali from north to south and west to east, and you will find a variety of unusual tourist attractions while on vacation. To save your time, we have compiled a list of 5 anti-mainstream activities that you can do to make your holiday in Bali experience even more exciting.

Five alternative activities in Bali

1. Exploring the Pemuteran Biorock for an unforgettable experience

Biorock and Pemuteran may still sound strange to many people. However, Pemuteran Village in North Bali is predicted to be the home of the largest marine park in the world. Inside the crystal waters of Pemuteran nests gorgeous coral reefs uniquely shaped like buildings in a children’s playground. Thanks to the Biorock Bali program, that arrangement becomes possible. The program works on reviving reefs damaged by fish bombing and climate change. How cool is that?

You can wander around and see this coral reef park using a glass-bottomed boat while snorkeling and diving. Reef Seen Aquatic Center, as the operator, provides all these facilities, including guides and homestays for those who want to stay overnight.

2. Pearl harvesting at Penyabangan, the abode to jewels from north Bali

About 11 km east of Pemuteran lies the Penyabangan Village. The unique thing is, here, you can visit the largest pearl farm in the world, owned by Atlas South Sea Pearl. We can visit to buy pearl jewelry souvenirs and see the shell hatching and pearl harvesting process from these shells. Spare some cash to bring some of them home. If you’re lucky, you even can see pearl oyster cultivation activities from small to large.

3. Tasting the scary-looking Balinese Salak in Sibetan

Balinese Salak (snake fruit) has garnered fame for its sweetness. But did you know how many Salak varieties can you find in Bali? Fifteen! From Salak Nanas (Pineapple Snake Fruit) to Salak Cempaka, and Salak Gula Pasir (Powdered Sugar Snake Fruit).

At Abian Salak agrotourism in Sibetan Village, Karangasem, you can tour around the salak garden. Here, you can get to know the various types of salak that exist and have a taste of them. You can also spend the night here and sample various cuisine made of Salak, including sweets, chips, syrup, to Salak wine.

4. Getting romantic at dinner on a plane amidst the rice field

Feel the experience of having dinner on an airplane without all the rushes and turbulences with far more appetizing meals than what you would typically enjoy in the air. Visit Keramas Aero Park, Gianyar, to enjoy Balinese specialties and international and vegetarian menus at Inflight Restaurant inside a Boeing 737-400 cabin, comfortably ‘parked’ in the rice fields.

5. Cruising around Bali with the environmentally-friendly electric cars

Make your spot-hopping in Bali more memorable by driving an electric vehicle. You can try this environmentally friendly car to get around the Nusa Dua area and several other destinations.

Not only is it environmentally friendly, but some of the electric vehicles are also uniquely shaped, like the Toyota COMS (1 seater) and Toyota C+pod (2 seaters). However, these types are not designed for long trips. If you need an electric vehicle for medium or long distances, you can try the more popular Toyota Prius PHEC (4-seaters). Marvelous!
