It’s safe to say that the year-end holiday is one of the most awaited moments for many, and people would save their precious annual leave days to spend the year-end holiday with their families and friends.
If you haven’t planned to go anywhere this year-end, why not try going on a road trip from Jakarta to Malang? It would be memorable, and renting a car would ensure you don’t have to exhaust yourself driving without sacrificing comfort.
The trip from Jakarta to Malang is around 862 kilometers via the Trans Java toll road and takes approximately an entire day. However, for this trip, since you’re in no rush to get from one point to another, you can enjoy the trip with your loved ones by stopping at the many cities you travel through.
The distance from Jakarta to Cirebon is around 240 kilometers and reachable in a 4-hour drive. If you leave Jakarta in the morning, you’ll be in time for lunch at Cirebon.
Empal Gentong and Empal Asem will be among the most delicious foods of your trip after spending hours battling the traffic. Empal Gentong is a food typical to Cirebon, which consists of cuts of meat and different kinds of beef innards doused in thin and spicy coconut-milk-based broth. Gentong means barrel in Indonesia; as the name implies, this food is cooked in a barrel.
Empal Asem is doused with a clear broth with a fresh sour taste that comes from belimbing wuluh (a small starfruit with a sour taste). Don’t miss out on Nasi Jamblang, available round the clock in Cirebon.
Located another 280 kilometers from Cirebon, Semarang can be your next stop when traveling to Malang from Jakarta.
As the capital of Central Java and one of the largest cities in Java, finding a roof to spend the night in won’t be hard, and so is finding culinary spots. Treat yourself to a plate of Babat Gongso, Bandeng Presto, and Lumpia.
You can spend the entire afternoon and overnight in the crowded Semarang with its historic buildings which look prettier at night. Like Lawang Sewu and Puri Gedeh.
Solo or Surakarta can also be another stop-over option during your road trip to Malang using a Car rental Jakarta. From Semarang, Surakarta is around 2 hours away through the Semarang-Solo, then Solo-Kertosono toll road.
Solo is the perfect alternative to spend that night at. Or just stop by to enjoy the beauty of this city full of Javanese culture.
Madiun is located 111 kilometers from Surakarta, 205 kilometers from Semarang, and 650 kilometers from Jakarta.
This city is famous for its railroad industry with many culinary options, including Arum Dalu, a train-themed cafe and museum. Besides finding a good meal, you can also explore nature by visiting Grape Ecotourism, Nongko Ijo Pine Forest, Krecekan Denu Falls, and others.
An alternative to Madiun would be Surabaya which is 4-5 hours away from Semarang, both via the Trans Java toll road as well as via Purwodadi. Before you arrive at your final destination, stopping at Surabaya makes perfect sense.
You will find countless tempting culinary options as you enter this city, including Kupang Lontong, Sate Ondomohen, Nasi Cumi (Squid Rice), Nasi Bebek (Duck Rice), Zangrandi Ice Cream, and many others.
You can even stop to visit historical places like the Monumen Kapal Selam (Submarine Monument), Tugu Pahlawan (Heroes Monument), House of Sampoerna, Surabaya Museum (SIola Building), and others.
