When it comes to Bandung, you will think of it as a city in West Java with endless tourist destinations. This is especially true given that Bandung has legendary natural wonders. One saying said that Bandung was created when God was smiling.

However, since it is still Ramadan, let’s take a break from the natural attractions requiring physical strength to visit them. In addition to its beautiful natural wonders, Bandung has several magnificent mosques that you can visit during this fasting month.

There are at least three magnificent mosques to visit: Al-Irsyad Mosque, Al Jabbar Mosque, and Bandung Grand Mosque. Besides its grandeur, each mosque attracts people because of its stunning design.

You can visit them while waiting for iftar time. It’s best to know first the mosques’ facts and history before visiting them. Two of them are designed by Ridwan Kamil, the Governor of West Java.

Facts and History of 3 Magnificent Mosques in Bandung

Al Jabbar Mosque

Al Jabbar Mosque has recently been a trending topic because of its grandeur. Inaugurated in December 2022, the mosque was built on an area of 26 hectares and considered as the biggest mosque in Bandung.

One of the attractions is its seemingly floating building as it was built above crystal clear lake. No wonder the visitors are enthusiastic to take pictures in its courtyard.

Located in Jl. Cimencrang No. 14, Gedebage District, Al Jabbar Mosque is a mosque designed by Ridwan Kamil in collaboration with Ahmad Heryawan. They want West Java Province to have a grand mosque.

Built with the cost Rp1 trillion, this mosque offers educational facilities, i.e., Rasulullah Museum and Al-Quran Museum, which are located in ground floor.

Al-Irsyad Mosque

With the green mosque concept, Ridwan Kamil admitted that this mosque is inspired from Masjidil Haram in Saudi Arabia. You will feel the fresh air when entering the mosque because its building is an open area. Al-Irsyad Mosque is designed as a cube, inspired by Ka’Bah.

Located in Kota Baru Parahyangan, West Bandung Regency, this mosque is commonly visited by 1000 pilgrims daily. The attractive side of this mosque is the mihrab or pulpit that is left open, so you can see the view of the mountains and trees. With a green concept, so many trees are grown in the mosque’s area, making it looks beautiful.

Bandung Grand Mosque

This mosque was established in 1810 and has become one of Bandung’s icons. This mosque, known as Grand Mosque, was last renovated in 2003.

You will see many street food sellers for iftar as this mosque is in Bandung town square. Remember to do Maghrib prayer there after iftar! You need to know those facts and history before visiting the three magnificent mosques in Bandung.
