The year 2022 becomes one of the milestones in terms of Indonesia’s international relations. For the first time, Indonesia is going to host the G20 presidency since joining in 1999. After going through a series of international events as a part of the G20 conferences throughout 2022, on November 15-16, 2022, Bali will host the G20 summit.
To help you understand the G20 summit, TRAC has compiled several facts you may need to know about the G20 in Bali. Here is some information about the forum, especially if you will be in Bali during the G20 summit event.
For your information, the G20 or Group of Twenty comprises 19 countries from various continents, and the European Union is the only organization that serves as a member. At the peak of the summit, 17 heads of state are planning to attend, including from Indonesia, the United States, China, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Turkey, Argentina, Australia, India, South Africa, Japan, and Germany. On the other side, three heads of state, including Russia, Mexico, and Brazil, have confirmed their absence from the summit.
To streamline the traffic during the G20 summit, an odd-even rule will be applied along ten roads in Bali throughout November 11-17, 2022. This traffic diversion will take effect from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Central Indonesian Time, every day. The following are ten roads where the odd-even rule takes place during the peak of the G20 Summit in Bali.
The G20 Summit in Bali will be held in several places, including the Nusa Dua and Ubud areas. The main event of the summit attended by heads of state will be held at Apurva Kempinski Bali, where almost all activities of the G20 Summit will take place.
Another location that will witness this event of an international scale is Ubud. Last September, the G20 Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) excursion study delegation visited Keliki Village, Ubud, Gianyar. This village is one of the villages that use new and renewable energy to power the village. In addition, V20 (value 20) also held a meeting at the Green School Ubud. More than that, apart from official activities, several locations around Ubud have also become favorite destinations for delegates, such as Penglipuran Village in Bangil Regency.
When speaking of the G20 Summit, it’s not just about meetings and discussions. Beyond that, the grand event becomes the best time to showcase local products to the eyes of the world. At least 20 MSMEs passed curation as official G20 souvenirs, ranging from pearl crafts, bags, and beverages, to wooden radios. How cool is that? 20 local products that will be showcased at the summit include:
Pandora Mutiara (NTB), Kallestory Eyewear (DIY), Borobudur Silver (DIY), Maharani Craft (Bali), Batika (NTB), Hape (Bali), Dehealth Supplies (East Java), Fragrance Kreasi Alami (West Java), Adem Juice & Smoothies (Bali), Tri Utami Jaya (NTB), Yagi Natural Indonesia (Aceh), Cocomama Komodo (NTT), Samsara (Bali), Rumah Atsiri (Central Java), Faber Instrument Indonesia (Central Java), Hucravindo (East Java), Furniwell Calistaprima (Central Java), Lima Menara Sejahtera (Bali), Lewi’s Organics (Banten), Suryo Art (Central Java), and not to miss, the unique wrapper from Imagenation (West Java).
As one of the grand events fronted by Indonesia, the summit will surely attract many eyes. We recommend that you cancel your plan to travel to Bali during this time, it never hurts to reschedule your vacation for convenience, for Bali will be in a stricter security mode during the G20 Summit.
