People often spend the Lebaran holiday not only for family gatherings in their hometown, but also for going on vacation with family and relatives they haven’t seen in a while. This is the right time to explore their hometown as there are always interesting destinations.
As Indonesia’s most populated island, Java becomes an epicenter of people going on their homecoming (mudik) trip during the Lebaran holiday. Most of them head to Central Java, West Java, and East Java Provinces.
If you plan to go to one of the provinces, don’t forget to visit several tourist destinations throughout Java.
Check out these five tourist destinations, the lands above the clouds, as they boast astonishing scenery of the sea of clouds. You can visit them during the Lebaran holiday.
Five Lands Above the Clouds in Java
Citorek Kidul Village, Banten
If you plan to go on a mudik trip to Banten, it might be a good idea to visit Citorek Kidul Village, Lebak Regency. There, you can see the beauty of the land above the clouds from Luhur Mountain at 900 meters above sea level.
Viral in social media in 2019, this destination offers the wide scenery of the sea of clouds. The best time to enjoy the scenery there is before sunrise, around 5 AM-7 AM, and you will see the grandeur of sunshine peeking through the thick clouds.
Dieng Highland
If you like hiking, you must be familiar with this destination. Dieng Highland is the entry point to Mount Prau and is renowned for its captivating land above the clouds.
If you are going through the trans-Java track on your mudik trip, visiting this destination in Banjarnegara Regency, Central Java, might be a good idea. You can stop by the villages around it to enjoy the beautiful scenery above.
Dieng Highland is 2,000 meters above sea level, making it the highest village in Java. That explains the area’s average temperature of 6-10 °C.
In July-August, the temperature drops to 0 to -2 °C, causing dews to appear in the morning. Dieng Highland is undoubtedly perfect for you who prefer natural sites with cool air.
Nepal Van Java, Magelang
To add some fun to your mudik trip to Central Java, you might consider visiting one of the highlands in Butuh Subvillage, Temanggung Village, Magelang Regency. There, you can see the beautiful land above the clouds similar to the one in Nepal on the slope of Mount Himalaya,
thus the name ‘Nepal Van Java.’ The view is mesmerizing. The villages are built neatly, flaunting harmonious views with crops and rice fields and the stout Mount Merbabu in the background. Nepal Van Java is open daily from 7 AM-5 PM. Entrance ticket to this destination is affordable, only Rp10,000/pax.
Keraton Cliff, Bandung
In Bandung, you can also see the wonderful land above the clouds. Located at 1,200 meters above sea level, Keraton Cliff is one of Bandung’s best spots to see the sunrise and sunset.
The best time to visit this place is in the morning. You can see the charming scenery of the pine forest covered with fog. Don’t forget to strike a pose on the available photo spots there!
