15 September 2025

  • Nusa Penida is becoming Bali's tourist darling in 2025, famous for iconic spots such as Kelingking Beach, Manta Point, and Diamond Beach, which have gone viral on social media.

  • Each destination offers a different charm, from dramatic limestone cliffs, snorkeling with manta rays, the natural pool of Angel's Billabong, to beautiful sunsets at Crystal Bay.

In recent years, Nusa Penida has become one of Bali’s most talked-about escapes. This rugged island, just off the southeast coast, offers a raw, dramatic beauty that feels worlds apart from the mainland.

Towering cliffs, hidden coves, and wild beaches have put Nusa Penida firmly in the spotlight as one of Bali’s top travel trends for 2025.

The rise of the hashtag #ExploreIndonesia movement has only amplified its appeal. Iconic images of Kelingking Beach and Manta Point now flood social media feeds, making the island a must-see for anyone heading to Bali. And with improved access by boat, it’s easier than ever for travelers to experience Nusa Penida’s untamed charm.

If you’re ready to discover what makes this island so captivating, TRAC has put together a guide to five unforgettable spots worth adding to your itinerary.

5 Must-See Spots in Nusa Penida

1. Kelingking Beach

  • Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Entry: IDR 15,000–20,000 per person

Kelingking Beach is the poster child of Nusa Penida and for good reason. The limestone cliffs resemble a T-Rex head jutting into the sea, creating one of the island’s most photographed views.

The turquoise waters crash dramatically against the rocks, while the beach itself remains pristine and secluded. It’s the perfect spot for an epic sunrise or sunset photo.

Reaching the beach requires stamina and sturdy footwear. The descent down the steep cliffs is no joke. But for those who make the climb, the reward is worth every step.

2. Manta Point

  • Hours: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM (tour schedules vary)
  • Snorkel/Dive Tours: Around IDR 300,000–400,000 depending on the operator

What sets Manta Point apart is its namesake: the giant manta ray. These graceful creatures, with wingspans of 10 to 16 feet, glide effortlessly through the shallow waters, often close enough for divers and snorkelers to witness up close. Many describe it as one of the most magical encounters in Bali.

Located on the island’s southwest coast, Manta Point is a 30–40 minute boat ride from Crystal Bay. Tours typically run in the morning, when conditions are best.

3. Broken Beach & Angel’s Billabong

  • Hours: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Entry: IDR 10,000–15,000 per site

Nusa Penida’s west coast is home to two stunning natural formations. Broken Beach (Pasih Uug) is a circular rock arch carved by the sea, resembling a giant amphitheater overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Just next door, Angel’s Billabong offers a natural infinity pool framed by jagged cliffs, with emerald-blue waters that sparkle at low tide.

4. Crystal Bay

  • Location: Sekartaji Village, Nusa Penida
  • Hours: Open daily, morning until dusk

As its name suggests, Crystal Bay is known for its crystal-clear waters. It’s a favorite for snorkeling, thanks to its colorful reef, tropical fish, and the occasional sighting of sea turtles.

From July to October, you might even spot the elusive mola-mola (ocean sunfish). For those who prefer to stay dry, it’s also a great place to relax and take in the sunset.

5. Diamond Beach & Atuh Beach

  • Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Entry: Around IDR 15,000 per person

On the island’s east side, Diamond Beach is famous for its white cliffs and rock formations shaped like sparkling diamonds. The view from the cliffside stairs is breathtaking, like stepping into a living painting.

Nearby Atuh Beach offers a quieter escape, framed by dramatic rock arches rising from the sea. Together, they showcase the island’s raw, untouched beauty.

How to Get to Nusa Penida

The most convenient way to reach Nusa Penida is by fast boat from Sanur or Padang Bai on mainland Bali. The Sanur–Toyapakeh route takes about 30–45 minutes each way. The dry season (April–October) is the ideal time to go, with calmer seas and sunnier skies.

If you plan to bring a car or motorbike across, the ferry from Padang Bai is the only option. With just two daily departures (morning and midday), it’s best suited for travelers planning an overnight or extended stay.

For a hassle-free experience, many travelers book through local tour operators who handle tickets and day-trip itineraries.
