In an effort to bring Net Zero Emission (NZE), Toyota, in collaboration with PT Serasi Autoraya (SERA), represented by TRAC and Pertamina Patra Niaga, conducted a trial of Bioethanol E10 as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel.
This collaboration was marked by the signing of a partnership agreement on Friday, October 2010, during the opening of the Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) 2024 at ICE BSD, Serpong, South Tangerang.
It was attended by Toyota President Director Hiroyuki Ueda, Toyota Vice President Director Henry Tanoto, SERA President Director Mohammad Farauk, and Pertamina Patra Niaga President Director Riva Siahaan.
In his remarks, Hiroyuki Ueda stated that this initiative reflects Toyota’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality in mobility across Indonesia.
“Toyota alone cannot achieve carbon neutrality; it requires collaboration with key stakeholders. This partnership with Pertamina Patra Niaga and TRAC is aimed at exploring the use of alternative fuel blends, specifically Bioethanol E10, in the daily mobility of customers in Indonesia, particularly in East Java,” he explained.
The trial is being conducted in collaboration with TRAC, one of the pioneers in vehicle rental services in Indonesia, particularly in car rental. The trial will last for 1 year at TRAC Surabaya, located at Jalan Wonorejo Timur No. 99, Surabaya, East Java.
Toyota provides at least 50 vehicles in various types, including Toyota Innova Zenix Hybrid EV, Avanza, Calya, and Agya. These vehicles will be used by TRAC for its car rental operations, both personal and corporate clients.
During the trial period, those cars are only allowed to use Bioethanol E10 fuel. Pertamina Patra Niaga will ensure a consistent supply of this fuel at TRAC Wonorejo, Surabaya.
Furthermore, TRAC will monitor the car performance of those that use Bioethanol E10 through the AstraFMS (Astra Fleet Management System), comparing it with cars that use conventional fuel.
TRAC and Toyota will collect data samples to analyze various components, including dyno tests, carbon deposit measurements, and emission tests. They will also gather real-time data on fuel consumption, driving behavior, and engine condition.
“TRAC is committed to conducting eco-friendly transportation business. This collaboration is one of the concrete manifestations of TRAC’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions by testing the utilization of cleaner energy sources in our vehicle operations. We hope this initiative can help us provide greener transportation and achieve our company’s sustainability goals,” said Mohammad Farauk, President Director of PT Serasi Autoraya (TRAC).
Henry Tanoto, Vice President Director of Toyota, added that the collaboration between the three companies is also a form of realization and consistency to achieve carbon neutrality in people’s daily mobility.
“The common goal of achieving carbon neutrality during the energy transition inspires Toyota, Pertamina Patra Niaga, and TRAC to collaborate. With the proven track records of each company in their respective fields, this synergy is expected to ensure that the journey toward NZE 2060 stays on track and encourages more people to contribute,” he concluded.
The trial of Bioethanol E10 usage is also part of Pertamina’s priority program in transitioning to more environmentally friendly renewable energy.
Earlier, in mid-2023, Pertamina began mass marketing Pertamax Green 95, a fuel blending Pertamax with 5% Bioethanol or E5.
Hopefully, the Bioethanol E10 trial involving Toyota and TRAC can run smoothly and in accordance with the plan, leading to the development of a plant-based gasoline that is better for both vehicles and the environment.
“Collaborating holistically with vehicle manufacturers and car service providers is a significant step toward creating a biofuel ecosystem in Indonesia. We believe this initiative will not only help reduce the greenhouse gas emmision and accelerate the Net Zero Emission 2060 target but also positively impact the national economy, open new job opportunities, and improve the welfare of local farmers involved in the bioethanol supply chain,” said Riva Siahaan, President Director of Pertamina Patra Niaga.
