Long trip, but worth it!

Administratively, Bukit Holbung is located in Harian District, Samosir Regency. For those who come from outside the province or even outside the Island, you can first book a flight to Kuala Namu airport which is the main airport in North Sumatera, or directly board a plane to Silangit Airport in Siborong-borong. Proceed the trip for another 6-7 hours from Medan and Kualanamu Airport or 3 hours from Silangit Airport. Since it’s a long journey, you should opt for a comfortable choice of transportation.

From Medan, the most common route is via Berastagi-Merek-Sidikalang, cruising along the up-and-down and winding road. There are many stops along the way whenever you need to recharge yourself like Lumbini Natural Park, Tele View Tower, and Efrata Waterfall. Meanwhile, from Silangit Airport it takes about 3 hours to travel along the south and west sides of Lake Toba.

Wear comfy clothes and footwear

To reach the spot that tourists favor most, you have to walk about 10-15 minutes from the parking area so try to wear comfortable and light footwear. You need to remember that Bukit Holbung is an open location at a height. Use comfortable clothes for outdoor activities and you should choose one that absorbs sweat. It can be very hot and windy at times. If you intend to do a proper photo session, you should just change clothes or shoes when you reach the top of the hill. Don’t forget to bring a headwear like a hat or cap if you go during the day because there are no large trees to shelter below. Also, bring a pair of sunglasses too! Besides the obvious intention, warding off the sun glare, you also will definitely look cooler when taking pictures.

Only bring essentials when hiking up the hill

There are no food or drink stalls up there. Therefore, you should bring drinks and snacks to make sure you don’t hike while hungry. Pay attention to your bringings, don’t carry too many things so you can freely enjoy the scenery during the trip. And don’t litter, please!
