When people think of Bali, their minds usually jump to the buzz of Kuta, the artsy charm of Ubud, or the beachy vibes of Seminyak and Canggu. It’s no surprise because South Bali is packed with trendy cafés, iconic beach clubs, and Insta-worthy views at every turn.
But head a little further north, and you’ll find a completely different side of the island. Quiet, untouched, and refreshingly raw, North Bali offers a peaceful escape from the crowds, especially around Buleleng Regency.
Sure, spots like Lovina Beach with its early morning dolphin sightings, or the coral-rich Pemuteran Beach may already ring a bell. But there’s so much more waiting to be discovered.
If you’re craving a calm, scenic escape far from the usual tourist circuit, these five underrated destinations in North Bali deserve a spot on your bucket list.
Tucked in the coastal area of Singaraja, once Bali’s provincial capital, Panimbangan Beach (also known as Penimbangan Beach) offers a chill, city-side escape. At low tide, the shore opens up just enough for a casual stroll or some shoreline play.
When the tide rises, pull up a seat at one of the local food stalls and enjoy a quiet sunset with ocean views and snacks in hand. It’s simple, unpretentious, and just right for unwinding after a long day.
If you’ve got a thing for the outdoors, Sekumpul Waterfall is the kind of place that sticks with you. Often dubbed the most beautiful waterfall in Bali, this natural wonder is hidden in Sekumpul Village and features seven streams cascading down lush cliffs, framed by dense tropical forest.
The journey there is a bit of a trek, around 45 minutes of rocky trails, slippery stairs, and river crossings, but it’s all worth it once you hear the thundering roar of the 80-meter fall.
You’ll want a local guide, sturdy shoes, and definitely a change of clothes. This is nature at its rawest and most rewarding.
Not far from the main roads of North Bali, Teletubbies Hill in Kubutambahan is a hidden gem still flying under most travelers’ radars.
Named after its round, grassy mounds that resemble the set of the children’s show, this spot is a dream for landscape photographers and casual content creators alike.
The best light hits in the early morning or right before sunset, when the sun casts dramatic shadows across the curves of the hills. The breeze is cool, the vibe is calm, and the scenery? Perfect for a little “healing” and a lot of good pictures.
While Lake Beratan gets all the crowds, Lake Tamblingan remains peaceful, almost otherworldly. Nestled at the foot of Mount Lesung and surrounded by rainforest, this lake often wakes up cloaked in fog, giving it a mystical atmosphere that feels straight out of a dream.
Here, you can paddle a traditional jukung canoe across glassy waters, trek through forest trails, or explore ancient lakeside temples like Pura Dalem Tamblingan.
It’s a sanctuary for quiet reflection, sunrise chasers, and those looking for something deeper than just another tourist stop. Dress warm and pack for surprises, weather can shift fast at 1,000 meters above sea level.
Tucked in the village of Les, Tejakula, Dapur Bali Mula is more than just a restaurant, it’s a window into the soul of Bali Aga culture. Meals here are cooked with ancient recipes passed down through generations, using traditional wood-fire methods and fresh ingredients from their own gardens.
But what makes this place truly special is the experience: You can join a cooking class, explore the village, and learn about Balinese culinary philosophy from the source.
There’s no fixed menu and no set prices, you simply give what you can, as a form of appreciation. It’s a beautiful reminder that the most meaningful meals are shared, not sold.
