Away from the bustling beach scene, Ubud offers a peaceful escape and is a top tourist destination in Bali. It’s an ideal spot for all types of visitors, including families.
As Ubud continues to welcome diverse travelers, the number of halal and Muslim-friendly eateries has grown, providing Muslim tourists with more dining options during their stay.
This October, an international event will be held in Ubud, the Ubud Writer and Readers Festival 2024. So, if you are confused about where to vacation this month, a trip to Ubud, Bali might be an option.
Conveniently located near the Ubud Art Market and Puri Agung Ubud, Halal Ubud Burger (Hubber) is an ideal spot for a quick, satisfying meal while exploring the heart of Ubud.
Since its opening in 2017, the restaurant has earned its halal certification from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
As the name suggests, this halal eatery specializes in a variety of beef and vegetarian burgers. You’ll also find a selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads on the menu.
The signature items are the Mushroom Cheeseburger and Onion Burger, both known for being delightfully messy and delicious!
For a taste of authentic Indonesian cuisine, Antawali Kitchen stands out as one of Ubud’s most popular halal restaurants among tourists.
Their standout dishes include Rawon (a rich beef soup), Chicken Pecel Rice (rice with spiced vegetables and chicken), and a variety of home-cooked favorites.
The restaurant also caters to vegetarian and vegan diners, offering Indonesian specialties like Mushroom Rendang served with red rice—perfectly seasoned with traditional spices.
If Bale Udang Mang Engking sounds familiar, that’s because it has branches across Indonesia, including two in Bali. The Ubud location, however, offers some exclusive menu items you won’t find at other branches.
These include the Bebek Betutu Teges (spiced, slow-cooked duck) and the Megibung Package—a shared meal featuring liwet rice, perfect for group dining.
No longer a hidden gem, Bebek Tepi Sawah remains one of the most popular spots in Ubud. The restaurant’s charming setting—right on the edge of a rice field—along with its delicious food, keeps visitors coming back.
While duck is the star of the menu, they also offer a variety of chicken, fish, and vegetable dishes. Be sure to try the Bebek Timbungan, a Balinese specialty where the duck is cooked in bamboo with traditional spices.
Another great option for halal duck dishes in Ubud is Bebek Bengil. Since 1990, this Muslim-friendly restaurant has been a favorite for both local and international visitors.
To enjoy their famous Crispy Duck, it’s best to visit for lunch, as this signature dish often sells out later in the day.
For an authentic taste of Balinese cuisine, a visit to Bu Mangku’s Kedewatan Chicken Rice is a must. Known for its halal offerings, this popular food stall in Ubud is always buzzing with visitors.
Priced at just IDR 35,000, a plate of their signature chicken rice is not only budget-friendly but also packed with flavor.
The dish includes white rice, Betutu Chicken, shredded chicken, fried gizzard/liver, Urap Vegetables, fried peanuts, Sambal Embe Chili Sauce, boiled egg, Chicken Satay, Chicken Pepes, and a separate serving of Betutu Chicken Sauce. You’re guaranteed to leave feeling satisfied!
A truly legendary food stall, Warung Mak Beng Ubud has been around since Indonesia’s independence. Similar to its well-known location in Sanur, the menu here features fried fish served with their signature soup. If you’re not a fan of spicy food, be cautious—their sambal chili sauce packs quite a punch!
As the name suggests, Olive Mediterranean Cuisine offers a delightful selection of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes. It’s a popular spot for tourists from those regions who are craving a taste of home.
Be sure to try the Grilled Shrimp served with Beetroot Hummus and Tabbouleh, or opt for a fresh Mediterranean salad.
In addition to being a Muslim-friendly restaurant, Olive Mediterranean Cuisine is also family-friendly, offering a playroom, a children’s menu, and fun activities to keep the little ones entertained.
If you’re searching for Muslim-friendly or halal dining options in Ubud, don’t overlook the many vegan and vegetarian restaurants.
Top recommendations is Seeds of Life, renowned for its raw vegan cuisine. Every dish is plant-based and prepared without the use of high heat, preserving the natural flavors and nutrients.
For another vegan and vegetarian-friendly option in Ubud that is also Muslim-friendly, Clear Cafe is a great choice. It’s an ideal spot for breakfast or brunch, where you can enjoy the serene Ubud atmosphere, blending nature with cultural beauty.
The menu at Clear Cafe offers a wide range of international dishes, from Fried Rice, Fruit Bowls, Salads, and Pad Thai, to Nachos, Curries, Burritos, Tacos, and even Sushi. While the focus is on vegetarian fare, they also serve non-vegetarian options, though limited to fish.
Beyond the 10 halal restaurants mentioned, Ubud has plenty of Muslim-friendly food stalls, often run by traders from Java or Sumatra. Finding halal food here is easy, with options ranging from rice stalls to Padang restaurants nearly everywhere.
