Located right in the heart of Jakarta, Pos Bloc has quickly become a go-to spot for anyone looking to unwind after exploring the city’s many attractions. Its colonial-style architecture, paired with a modern touch from trendy local tenants and young creatives, gives Pos Bloc a unique and inviting vibe.
In early September, Pos Bloc faced a setback when a fire broke out at the back of the property. Thankfully, the management responded swiftly, and operations continued in the unaffected areas. By the end of the month, Pos Bloc was back in full swing, hosting exciting events like an exhibition for MBloc Design Week.
This October marks Pos Bloc’s third anniversary, and to celebrate, they’re rolling out a lineup of activities throughout the month. So, before you head over to Pos Bloc, let’s take a look at what you can expect!
Pos Bloc Jakarta is housed in a building that was once a post office during the Dutch colonial period, standing strong for over a century.
With its exterior freshly restored, this iconic site has been brought back to life by a new generation of creatives. In 2021, it was reborn as Pos Bloc Jakarta, a nod to its roots as the city’s central post office.
Originally known as the Post en Telegraaf Building, this colonial structure still enchants visitors with its art deco charm. Today, it seamlessly blends the old with the new, as young entrepreneurs occupy aesthetic kiosks, showcasing their creative products in this historical setting.
Enter through the main door on Jalan Pos, near Pasar Baru and across from the Ciliwung River, and you’ll be greeted by a curved facade adorned with stained glass and towering pillars.
This grand entrance, which once welcomed post office visitors, now invites you into a space that blends history with modern creativity. Don’t forget to capture a photo of this timeless landmark during your visit!
As you step inside, you’re greeted by a large, open space that feels like a hall. There’s a set of tiered steps, perfect for relaxing with friends or unwinding solo.
At the top, you’ll find a bookshelf where you can browse and read for free—or even participate in a book exchange with the existing collection.
Behind the steps, there’s a large screen, which regularly serves as a backdrop for a variety of events, from live music performances to communal movie screenings.
When there’s no event, the space is set up with chairs and tables, making it an ideal spot for those who enjoy a “work from anywhere” setup.
No visit to Pos Bloc Jakarta is complete without exploring the diverse food and drink options available. Coffee enthusiasts can enjoy a refreshing iced coffee at Canggu Bakehouse or Filosofi Kopi. These modern coffee shops don’t just serve drinks—they also offer a tempting variety of bread and pastries.
If you’re craving traditional Indonesian flavors, Tauto Kedung Rasa is a must-try. This stall offers Soto with Tauco, a unique dish from Pekalongan, which is not easily found in big cities like Jakarta.
For a more familiar taste, Sedjuk Bakmi & Kopi is a great option. Known for its viral popularity among young people, this noodle shop offers a variety of bakmi dishes with different toppings, as well as snacks and side dishes perfect for pairing with warm rice.
If you’re in the mood for an international culinary adventure, check out Masti Jakarta or Na Masti for Indian flavors, grab a slice of New York-style pizza at Pizza Head, or try the Japanese-fusion offerings at Gyu Jin Teppan.
Pos Bloc is also home to creative reimaginings of traditional products, like those at Jamuné. This shop offers a variety of concoctions made from traditional herbs and spices, packaged in a modern, eye-catching way.
One standout is Purple Magic, a mix of butterfly pea flower, lemongrass, lime, and ginger, known for its soothing properties—perfect for relieving coughs. These herbal drinks make a great alternative to sugary sodas.
Beyond food and drinks, Pos Bloc is home to a variety of brands founded by young Indonesian entrepreneurs. Raddyn Indonesia offers body care products inspired by Madura, which have garnered attention from both women and men alike.
Another standout is Sovlo, a brand that creates local souvenirs celebrating Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.
For book lovers, Patjar Merah hosts a cozy book stall and collaboration space, regularly organizing literacy events—including the recent Asian Book Festival. If you’re looking to capture fun moments with friends, a visit to Photomatics is a must.
And for those feeling nostalgic, the east lobby still houses a small post office. It’s the perfect spot to send postcards to loved ones—or even write one to yourself, just for fun!
Pos Bloc’s main entrance is located at Jl. Pos No. 2, just a short distance from the iconic Pasar Baru area. For those driving, valet parking is available, with additional parking options at the Main Post Office.
If you’re coming from the front of Pos Bloc, you can stroll past the Jakarta Arts Building, and near GKJ, there’s an entrance leading to the Main Post Office road. If you’ve parked in this area, you can access Pos Bloc through the east entrance.
Pos Bloc is open daily, Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. On Fridays through Sundays, it opens earlier at 7:00 AM. On weekends, various exciting events are often held, so be sure to check Pos Bloc’s official social media accounts for the latest schedule.
Pos Bloc is part of the MBloc Group, which you might already be familiar with through MBloc in the Blok M area of South Jakarta—a former money printing factory and residential complex for Peruri employees.
Pos Bloc can be seen as its sibling, as both are under the same network, the MBloc Group. Beyond Jakarta, the group has expanded with Pos Bloc Medan, Pos Bloc Surabaya, and Pos Collective Bandung.
While many of these locations share the common thread of revitalized old postal buildings, the MBloc Group extends beyond that. In Solo, you’ll find Lokananta Bloc, which occupies a historic record company, while JNM Bloc—the Jogja National Museum—hosts the prestigious ArtJog event every year.
Additionally, Fabriek Bloc in Padang, West Sumatra, is another unique destination within the network.
