Omakase dining has taken Jakarta by storm, bringing a touch of Japanese tradition and culinary artistry to the city’s dining scene.
Derived from the Japanese phrase meaning “leave it to the chef,” omakase is all about entrusting the chef to craft a menu that captures the best of each ingredient, highlighting seasonal flavors and techniques with a personal touch.
More than just a meal, omakase is a culinary performance. Each course is presented in artfully prepared, bite-sized servings, inviting guests to savor each unique flavor.
Traditionally focused on sushi, omakase has now expanded, and in some places, you’ll even find coffee or cocktail omakase for a modern twist.
Zutto is a must-visit for sushi enthusiasts who crave high-quality omakase. Known for its premium sashimi and sushi crafted with fresh, top-tier ingredients, Zutto sources much of its seafood directly from Japan.
Omakase at Zutto starts at IDR 2 million, including 14-15 courses ranging from appetizers to fruit-infused desserts.
Located in Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK), North Jakarta, Zutto also offers private dining services, bringing the omakase experience to your event or home, with prices tailored to fit.
71st Omakase offers a fresh take on the omakase experience, combining locally sourced ingredients with a unique farm-to-table approach.
Tucked away in a residential area on Jalan Gelagah, Cirendeu, South Tangerang, this spot presents an intimate, hidden dining atmosphere.
Each session at 71st Omakase is themed—currently featuring Shio, with past themes like music, zodiac signs, and even space.
Unlike traditional omakase, where chefs work directly in front of diners, 71st takes an innovative approach, presenting dishes in surprising ways that invite you into a story of flavors and creativity.
Dining at 71st Omakase costs IDR 1.2 million per person, though promotions sometimes drop it to IDR 690,000. Reservations are required, as they don’t accept walk-ins.
A favorite among South Jakarta’s younger crowd, Ichiba Omakase is best known for its location in the bustling Ashta District 8, Senopati.
For those outside South Jakarta, you can also find branches in Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) and SMT Tower in Gading Serpong, Tangerang.
Ichiba offers a reasonably priced omakase experience without skimping on quality. Packages start at IDR 680,000 for a 15-course menu, while the full experience—with 23 premium courses—goes for IDR 2.3 million.
One of Jakarta’s iconic omakase spots, Kohai Sushi Bar is discreetly nestled among Kuningan’s high-rises. Kohai’s omakase starts at just IDR 370,000, featuring a well-rounded selection of two appetizers, nine pieces of nigiri, a soup, and dessert.
For a seasonal twist, try the Kiseki Aki Omakase for IDR 425,000, available only from September to November 2024.
This popular sushi restaurant brings a unique offering: a halal-certified omakase. Reservations are recommended to secure your spot at Guresu Dining, where omakase packages start at just IDR 389,000.
Alongside the omakase, Guresu offers a wide selection of sushi, ramen, curry rice, and even a kids’ menu, perfect for families.
When dining omakase-style, keep these etiquette tips in mind:
Omakase has expanded beyond sushi to include unique experiences like coffee and cocktail tastings. For those curious to try a coffee omakase, head to Omakafe in BSD, South Tangerang, or Oma Coffee Brewers in Cilandak and Kemang, South Jakarta.
While cocktail omakase is still emerging in Jakarta, Pantja in Senopati offers a noteworthy experience for cocktail lovers. You’ll find even more options for cocktail omakase if you’re visiting Bali.
Besides omakase, there are many other culinary tours in Jakarta. You can plan a flavorful adventure by visiting hidden culinary attractions or hunting for Jakarta's specialties.
